HOOKSETT, N.H.—Trevor Jewell recorded a hat trick to lead the visiting Johnson and Wales University ice hockey team to a 10-2 win against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 2-7-2 overall, while the win boosts the Wildcats above the .500 mark to 5-4-1 overall.
Jeremiah Ketts and Zach Hamilton opened up scoring in the first period for Johnson and Wales, followed by back-to-back goals by Jewell. The Wildcats would take a 5-0 advantage in the first period on a goal by Ian Depasquale.
Joe Simeone and Danny Kaufmann would tally two more goals in the second period to give the Wildcats the 7-0 advantage before the Penmen would answer with back-to-back goals. Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season unassisted at the 13:59 mark, followed by a goal by Chris Hickey (Gilford, N.H.) at the 15:25 mark. Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) assisted on the goal.
The Wildcats would round out the scoring with three third period goals by Max Carter, Jewell, and Kyle Botos to post the 10-2 final.
Depasquale, Simone and Ketts all wrapped up the evening with a goal and two assists for the Wildcats, who went 4-6 on power play opportunities.
John Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen, recording nine saves in just over 29 minutes of work before giving way to Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) who stopped six shots and allowed only three goals. Matt Cooper earned the win for the Wildcats and recorded 28 saves as Southern New Hampshire outshot Johnson and Wales 30-25.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until January 12, when the Penmen travel to play Nichols College at 8:10 p.m. The Penmen will begin a five-game homestand on January 15, hosting SUNY Potsdam at 5:30 p.m.
