Terrell Ray totaled 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Franklin
Pierce University to a 69-58 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory
over Southern New Hampshire University at the FPU Fieldhouse
Saturday afternoon. The Ravens improved to 10-12 overall and
5-12 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 13-9 and 8-9 in the
league.
Ray finished 9-11 from the floor
and also handed out three assists. Kinard Dozier was the
other Franklin Pierce player in double figures as he added 15
points, going 3-6 behind the arc. Dozier also dished out
seven assists.
Tory Stapleton
(Rahway, N.J.) led SNHU with 14 points, while Stephen
Wood (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) was 5-5 from the floor
and finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Franklin Pierce opened the game by
scoring the game's first 15 points and held the Penmen scoreless
until a basket by Hanell Velez (Woburn, Mass.)
5:15 into the contest. The Penmen would get the lead down to
10 three times, with a Corey Boland (Union, N.J.)
basket with 9:42 left making it 24-14. A Ray basket 2:40
before halftime gave Franklin Pierce its largest first half lead,
43-25, and the Ravens took a 45-30 lead into the locker room.
The Penmen would attempt to get
back into the game with a late 13-1 run capped by a pair of
Stapleton free throws with just over three minutes to play that
made the score 64-58, but Southern New Hampshire would get no
closer.
Franklin Pierce was 16-30 from the
floor and 6-11 behind the arc in the first half and was 9-20 from
three-point land for the game. The Ravens also held a 36-28
rebounding advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns home
Tuesday night when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 7:30 contest at the
SNHU Fieldhouse.
