Top-Ranked Franklin Pierce Downs Women's Basketball

RINDGE, N.H. - Johannah Leedham totaled 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead top-ranked Franklin Pierce University to a 92-75 Northeast-10 women's basketball win over Southern New Hampshire University at the FPU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.  The Ravens remained unbeaten and improved to 21-0 and 17-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are 11-13 and 7-10 in the league.

Leedham finished 11-21 from the floor and also added three blocked shots and three steals.  Cynthia Gaudet totaled 22 points and eight assists for the Ravens, who also received 13 points and eight rebounds from Jewel White.

Freshman Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine) paced Southern New Hampshire with a career-best 25 points, going 11-15 from the floor, while also grabbing five rebounds.  Erin Baldwin (Fairhaven, Mass.) knocked down three of her six three-point attempts and scored a career-best 13 points.  Baldwin also handed out six assists.  Ashara Carrington (Marblehead, Mass.) added eight points.  Carrington passed the 950-point mark for her career and now needs 48 points for 1,000.

Southern New Hampshire held a pair of leads in the early going, with a layup by Sorrell 2:45 into the contest giving the Penmen a 7-5 lead.  Franklin Pierce used an 11-0 run midway through the first half capped by a White basket with 6:24 left before halftime to give the Ravens a 38-23 lead.  Franklin Pierce would pull out to a 51-34 halftime lead

Franklin Pierce took its largest lead, 72-48, with 13:30 left on a White basket.  The Penmen would pull within 11, 83-72, with three minutes left by Carrington capped a 12-1 spurt, but SNHU would get no closer.

Franklin Pierce shot 57.1% (20-35) in the first half and 51.4% for the game.  The Penmen were 17-30 (56.7%) from the floor over the final 20 minutes and 50% (30-60) for the game, but 21 SNHU turnovers led to 34 Raven points.  Both teams grabbed 37 rebounds.

Southern New Hampshire returns home Tuesday night when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 5:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
