EASTON, Mass.--Kirstie St. Martin recorded
a hat trick and added an assist for Stonehill College as the
Skyhawks defeated Southern New Hampshire University 5-1 in women's
soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Stonehill
betters their record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10
Conference, while the loss drops the Penmen to 1-1 overall and 0-1
in NE-10 action.
St. Martin would tally her first goal two minutes into the game
on an assist from teammate Kelsey Mahoney. She would strike
again 20 minutes later on an assist from Caitlin McEvily. St.
Martin rounded out her hat trick in the 31st minute on
an assisted goal.
Stonehill would add on more goal in the first half as McEvily
scored on an assist from Allison Nagle. The Skyhawks would
carry the 4-0 lead into the second half.
Southern New Hampshire would get on the board 5:30 into the
second half on an unassisted goal by Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, R.I.). Stonehill would strike
for the final time five seconds later, as Mahoney scored on an
assist from St. Martin.
Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) took the loss
in net for the Penmen, recording two saves and allowing four goals
in 34 minutes of action before giving way to teammate Maggie
Weldon (Manchester, N.H.). Weldon tallied one
save and allowed one goal for the Penmen. Stonehill
goalkeeper Sarah Hickey stopped 11 shots en route to the win.
The Penmen outshot the Skyhawks 17-12 on the day.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Friday, hosting
Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m. on Larkin Field.
