HOOKSETT, N.H.—Todd Bartelson scored twice to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 5-2 non-conference win over the Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 4-10-2 overall, while the win boosts the Corsairs to 11-5-1 on the season.
The Penmen would strike first with nine seconds remaining in the first frame when Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kansas) collected the puck in front of the net and poked it past UMass Dartmouth goaltender Collin Tracy to tally his second goal of the season. Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) and Neil Adams (Gardner, Mass.) recorded assists on the goal. The Penmen would carry the 1-0 advantage into the second period.
UMass Dartmouth would waste no time evening the score, as Bartelson notched his first goal of the game 2:07 into the second frame. UMass Dartmouth would also see second-period goals by Andrew Pontes and Paul Graham at the 8:19 and 16:39 marks to give the Corsairs the 3-1 advantage before SNHU's Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) would bring it back within one on a power-play goal at the 18:18 mark. Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) registered the assist.
With a 3-2 advantage entering the final frame, UMass Dartmouth would add another goal at the 3:59 mark as Jason Stahl connected on a pass from Mike Grzelcyk. Bartelson would tally the final goal of the game on a power play with 10:03 remaining in the game.
Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.) took the loss in the net for the Penmen and recorded 43 saves. Tracy stopped 20 shots en route to the win, as the Corsairs outshot the Penmen 48-22.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, hosting Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action at 2:00 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
