Former Men's Hoop Standout Sam Carey Passes Away

SAM CAREY OBITUARY

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University athletic department is mourning the death of former men's basketball standout Sam Carey, 26, who passed away following a single-car accident in Campton, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon.

Carey, a native of Manchester and graduate of Manchester Central High School, played for the Penmen from 2004-08.  He led SNHU in scoring and rebounding as a junior and senior, averaging 16.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior.  In 2007-08, he garnered Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference honors after ranking second in the league in field goal percentage (.629), fourth in rebounding and seventh in scoring.  He finished his career with 1,506 points, placing him 16th overall in program history.

Following his SNHU career, he had played professionally with the Manchester Millrats, in Germany and most recently with the Quebec Kebs of the National Basketball League of Canada.

Calling hours at the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester, will be Sunday (11/20), from 2 to 7 p.m.

The memorial service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the fieldhouse at Southern New Hampshire University, 2500 North River Road, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, it has been requested that donations be made in his memory to benefit his family via The Kayte Kenyon/Brayden Carey Trust Fund, Care of TDBank, 70 Bay St., Manchester 03104.
