Box Score

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Kayvon Roberts totaled 18 points and eight rebounds as New York Institute of Technology posted a 74-60 non-conference men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Recreation Hall Wednesday night.  The Bears improved to 3-6, while the Penmen are now 5-5 on the season.

Roberts paced four NYIT players in double figures.  Dominic Scurry finished with 16 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Azel Prather, Jr. added 15 points on 7-9 shooting.  Antoine Brown registered 12 points and six assists.

BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.) led Southern New Hampshire with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) (pictured) added 11 points.  CJ Marriro (Boston, Mass.) was 4-6 from the field and recorded eight points.

The Bears, who led 36-29 at halftime, saw their lead cut to five twice early in the second half, but went on a 12-2 run to build a 50-35 advantage with just over 14 minutes remaining following a Brown basket.  The Penmen used a 6-0 spurt to pull within nine with 12:15 left on a basket by Bonsignore, but NYIT countered with a 7-2 spurt to push the lead back to 14, 57-43.

Southern New Hampshire tried to get back into the game with a 9-2 run capped by a pair of free throws by Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) that made it 65-58 with just under four minutes to go.  That would be as close as the guests would get as NYIT closed the game on a 9-2 run.

NYIT jumped out to a 10-1 lead four minutes into the game but the Penmen chipped away at the lead and a layup by Marriro with 8:15 left before halftime gave SNHU its lone lead of the game, 21-19.  The Bears reclaimed the lead on their next possession as David Naves completed a conventional three-point play, and went on to build a 36-29 halftime lead.

NYIT shot 54.5% (30-55) for the game while limiting Southern New Hampshire to just 35.4% from the floor for the contest.   The Penmen held a 39-38 rebounding advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Queens (N.Y.) College in an 8:00 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
