PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Danny Kaufmann netted a hat trick to lead the Johnson & Wales (R.I.) Wildcats to a 7-1 ice hockey win against the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday evening in non-conference action. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 1-10-1 on the season, while the win boosts the Wildcats to 7-3-1.
The Penmen would tally the first goal of the game 8:14 into the first period on TJ Bond's (Nashua, N.H.) second goal of the season. Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) assisted on the goal. The Wildcats would tie the game 4:59 later on Kaufmann's first goal of the game. Johnson & Wales' Max Carter would score at the 15:47 mark to put the Wildcats up 2-1.
Kaufmann would notch back-to-back goals in the second frame to solidify his hat trick and give the Wildcats the 4-1 lead. Jason Healy, Alex Porrier, and Domenic Recchia would tally goals in the third period to set the Wildcats for the 7-1 victory.
SNHU goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 40 saves in 49:49 minutes of action before giving way to teammate Max Paluszynski (Moorestown, N.J.), who posted nine saves in the final 10:11 of the game. Johnson & Wales goaltender Matt Cooper posted 23 saves en route to the win.
Johnson & Wales finished 5-for-8 on the power play, while SNHU did not score with the extra man advantage in four attempts.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until Friday, January 6 when it travels to the 47th Annual Codfish Bowl, facing the hosting UMass Boston Beacons at 4:00 p.m.
