NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Senior Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was named the Northeast-10 Vern Cox Player of the Year for the third-straight year on Monday. In addition, the Penmen had a total of nine NE-10 All-Conference selections, including six First Team choices.
Chandronnait recently capped her third straight unbeaten season at No. 1 singles for the Penmen during conference play, going 13-0. Seven of her 13 victories were in straight sets, while in 26 sets, Chandronnait dropped just eight games all season. She wrapped up her NE-10 singles career 38-0, and becomes just the second player in NE-10 history to win Player of the Year three straight seasons. Bryant's Sacha Solomon captured the award three straight times from 2004-06.
Chandronnait, Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.), Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were all Northeast-10 First Team selections in singles, while Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) were Second Team members. In doubles play, the tandems of Chandronnait and Echeverry and Kirsten Jean and Mukdaprakorn were First Team, while Sam Jean and Pease teamed up for Second Team accolades.
Mukdaprakorn and Echeverry finished conference play 13-0 in singles action, with Mukdaprakorn playing at No. 2 and Echeverry at No. 3. For Echeverry, it marks her third straight unbeaten singles campaign in conference play. Kirsten Jean, a freshman, went 12-1 in singles play, primarily at the No. 5 spot. She was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team. Samantha Jean was 9-3 playing at No. 4 singles, while Pease was 7-3 playing at No. 6.
In doubles play, the tandems of Chandronnait/Echeverry (No. 1) and K. Jean/Mukdaprakorn (No. 2) were 8-0 and 7-0, respectively en route to First Team honors. Samantha Jean and Pease went 9-2 at the No. 3 spot during NE-10 Conference play.
15-2 overall and having posted a 13-0 record en route to their second-straight Northeast-10 regular season title, Southern New Hampshire hosts Saint Michael's College in the NE-10 semifinals Wednesday at 2:00.
