Baseball Hosts Annual MLB Scout Day

SCOUT DAY PHOTO GALLERY

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball program hosted its annual Major League Baseball Scout Day Thursday afternoon, as over 20 MLB scouts visited campus to observe individual skill workouts by Penmen players.  Position players participated in infield and outfield drills, a round of batting practice and speed testing, while the SNHU pitchers threw off the mound for the assembled scouts.

The Penmen have had a pitcher selected in each of the past two MLB Drafts.  Garrett Jewell was a 31st-round selection of the Minnesota Twins in 2011, while this past June, Tim Flight, the recipient of two National Pitcher of the Year awards, was taken in the 17th round by the New York Yankees.  A third pitcher, Zach LeBarron, inked a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim following the 2012 campaign.

The SNHU baseball program enjoyed its best-ever season in 2012, posting a school record for wins with a 43-15 record.  The Penmen qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time, capturing the East Region title and advancing to the Division II College World Series, where they won their first game 3-2 over Minnesota State.
