NO. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior
Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week and junior
Jack Davis (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) claimed NE10 Pitcher of the Week honors, both for the period ending April 5, the league office announced Monday.
Cumiskey, who also earned the honor back on March 9, batted .429 (9-21) with four home runs, 15 RBI and 10 runs scored in a 7-0 week for SNHU. Cumiskey also drew three walks and racked up seven extra-base hits with three doubles on top of the four long-balls, as he slashed .500/1.143/1.643. Cumiskey set the tone for the week in Monday's doubleheader sweep of American International College, as he went 5-for-7 with two home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and five runs scored. He hit safely in six of the seven contests and still managed to drive in three runs in the one he didn't.
Davis went 2-0 in three relief appearances over the seven games for the Penmen, hurling 13-and-a-third scoreless innings, as he allowed just seven hits, while striking out 11 and walking three. With the Penmen trailing 6-5 in the third inning of game two against AIC on Monday, Davis came on and slammed the door on the Yellow Jackets, tossing four shutout frames and allowing just two hits, while walking a pair and striking out five, as SNHU ended up rolling to a 19-6 victory. Davis saved his best for last, however, entering game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Assumption University with one out in the top of the first and went a career-long eight-and-two-thirds innings. He gave up five hits, while striking out five and walking just one, as the Penmen won, 3-0.
Cumiskey has started all 27 games he has played in his first season with the Penmen, batting .309 (29-94) with a team-high seven home runs, 27 RBI and 27 runs scored, while slashing .405/.596/1.001. He is tied for fourth in the league in home runs and tied for seventh in RBI.
Davis has made a team-high 13 appearances out of the bullpen, going 5-2 with a team-best 1.87 ERA. He has struck out 41 and walked 18 over 33-and-two-thirds innings, with opponents hitting .214 against him. Davis leads the conference in ERA, while ranking second in wins and opponent batting average, and eighth in strikeouts.
Cumiskey, Davis and the Penmen (21-8) are back in action Tuesday (April 7) at 3 p.m. when they play host to Saint Anselm College at Penmen Field.
