Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University blanked No. 6 seed University of New Haven 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Championship Wednesday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen, who are ranked No. 6 in the NCAA East Region rankings released Wednesday, improves to 11-5-3 overall, while the Chargers, ranked seventh, likely see their season come to a close at 11-7-1.
The Penmen will travel to Albany, N.Y. Friday to face second-seeded Saint Rose in the Northeast-10 semifinals. The Golden Knights were 5-1 winners over Southern Connecticut in their quarterfinal matchup. SNHU and Saint Rose battled to a 1-1 tie during the regular season.
Southern New Hampshire got on the board just 8:29 into the contest when Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) scored her fifth goal of the season with her blast from the top of the box that caromed in off the bottom of the crossbar. Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) assisted on the tally.. The other Penmen goal came 10:31 into the second half when SNHU was awarded a penalty kick after Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) was hauled down in the penalty area. Jaskula converted the penalty kick for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) made three saves en route to the shutout in goal for the Penmen, while New Haven keeper Natasha Purchla made four stops. SNHU outshot the Chargers 15-4 on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire is making its second-straight Northeast-10 semifinal appearance.
