Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team posted his first shutout on the season en route to a 6-0 Penmen win over SUNY Canton Friday night in a non-conference matchup. SNHU is now 2-3-1, while the Kangaroos fall to 3-10.
Six different Penmen scored in the winning effort. John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.), Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.), Mike Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.), Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.), and Zach Lubinski (Hudson, N.H.) all recorded goals for SNHU.
Humphrey would get the scoring going for the Penmen as he scored a late first period power play goal at the 14:44 mark from Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) and Kyle O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) to put Southern New Hampshire up 1-0 going into the second period.
The Penmen would build on the lead in the second period while scoring five more goals. Lubinski started the run when he scored an unassisted goal halfway through the period at the 9:14 mark. Gabrione would score just 45 seconds later from Berry, and Collins would score his second of the season from Caracino to put SNHU ahead 4-0 with just under eight minutes to play in the period.
Later in the period, Rotondi would connect on a goal from Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass) and Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) to put the Roos behind five, and a power play goal from Berry would close out the period as well as the scoring for both teams. SNHU would end the second period with a 6-0 lead.
Holske turned away 28 shots, while SUNY Canton goalie Morgan Barr would record the loss while saving 16 Penmen shots. SNHU converted on two out of eight power plays while the Roos could not find the net on 10.
Southern New Hampshire and SUNY Canton return to action again tomorrow as the Penmen host the Roos for a non-conference match slated for 5:30 p.m
