Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team lost a 3-1 decision to non-conference opponent SUNY Canton Saturday evening. The Penmen are now 2-4-1, while SUNY Canton is 4-10.
The Kangaroos took an early lead when Austin Root scored a goal 5:10 into the first period from George Curry and Eric Richard. Trevor Wright would build on SUNY Canton's lead when he scored his third goal of the season to put the Roos ahead 2-0 at the end of the period.
Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) would put the Penmen on the board in the second period when he scored his fifth goal of the season from Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) just 22 seconds into the period on a power play. Berry's goal would put SNHU behind just one goal heading into the third period.
The Roos would score their final goal when the Penmen pulled goaltender Dave Letarte (Salem, Mass.) with one minute left in the third period. Wright scored his second goal of the game on an empty net to secure the win at 3-1 for SUNY Canton.
Letarte made his Penmen debut in goal while recording 23 saves. Luis Puig earned the win while turning away 27 SNHU shots.
The Penmen return to action on Tuesday, December 4, when they travel to Assumption College for a 6:05 p.m. league game.
