Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The men's ice hockey team was defeated by Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game by a score of 5-2. SNHU is now 2-7-2, while the Panthers improve to 8-1-0.
Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season from Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.) and Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) just 24 seconds into the first period to put SNHU on the board. The Penmen would hold the 1-0 advantage over the Panthers for the remainder of the period and heading into the first intermission.
Three unanswered second period Plymouth State goals from Kyle Grecco, Mike Freitag, and Zach Fox would be the difference in the game as the Panthers would end the second period with a 3-1 lead over SNHU.
However, Troy would notch his second goal of the game early in the third period to bring the Penmen within one goal of the Panthers. But, just four minutes later, Josh Woody would increase the lead by two once again when he recorded a Plymouth State goal. A final power play goal from Kyle Welland would assure the win for the Panthers as they took a 5-2 lead.
Penmen goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 43 saves in net, while Brett Sweeney saved 16 shots for the Panthers.
Southern New Hampshire will remain idle until after the new year. They will open up the 2013 year with a Northeast-10 Conference game at Saint Michael's in the DoubleTree Ice Hockey Classic for a 7:00 p.m. start.
