FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team surrendered a goal with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to drop a 5-4 overtime road loss to Framingham State University on Thursday evening in non-conference action.
Framingham State took an early 2-0 lead, as Daniel Miressi scored his 11th goal of the season 56 seconds into the game and Charles Vaillancourt extended the lead to two just 30 seconds later. SNHU's Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) scored his fifth goal of the season 2:40 into the first period on an assist by Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) to bring the score to 2-1.
The Penmen would tack on a second goal at the 10:25 mark as Caracino notched his sixth goal of the season on assists by Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) and Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass.) to even the score at 2-2.
The Rams would reclaim the lead just 1:59 later on a goal by Jay Nichols. Framingham State would maintain the lead until the 19:32 mark when Michael Settipani (Charlestown, Mass.) scored the second goal of his career on an assist by Bryan Wright (Reading, Mass.) to set the score at 3-3 entering the first intermission.
Miressi would score again at the 15:40 mark of the second period to give the Rams the 4-3 advantage. The goal would mark the only scoring action of the second frame.
Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) would score at the 10:20 mark in the third period on assists by Berry and Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) to tie the score at 4-4 and force overtime.
With just 19 seconds remaining in the five-minute overtime period, Thomas Tracy connected on passes by Corey Chaney and Charles Vaillancourt to notch the game-winning goal.
SNHU goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) totaled 37 saves in net for the Penmen. Framingham State goaltender Todd Rowley recorded 35 saves en route to his first win in net this season.
SNHU finished 2-for-11 on the power play on the evening while holding the Rams scoreless in three attempts with the extra-man advantage.
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-15-4 on the season. The Penmen see their season come to a close at 2-20-1 overall.
