Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team snapped a seven-game win streak in the 2013 Manchester Police Athletic League Stovepipe College Hockey Tournament as they lost 4-1 to the University of New England Saturday afternoon. The Penmen are now 7-2-0 overall, while the Nor'easters are 3-5-1.
After a scoreless 14:06 in the first period, the Nor'easters were able to capitalize on a power play opportunity, and Zeth Zielinski recorded the team's first goal to take a 1-0 lead with just under six minutes to play in the period.
Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) got the hosts on the board in the second period after tying up the game at 1-1 five minutes in from Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) for his sixth goal of the season. However, the visitors scored two more goals in the frame to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Despite two power play chances for the Penmen in the final period, they were unable to connect, and the Nor'easters secured the win with one last goal with just under five minutes to go in the game to give them a 4-1 lead.
Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) totaled 32 saves in net for SNHU, while Colby Drost turned away 32 saves en route to the win.
The Penmen return to action tomorrow when they play Johnson & Wales for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference matchup. UMass Boston and University of New England will meet in the championship at 4:30 p.m.
