Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team was defeated by a score of 1-0 to Johnson & Wales University Sunday afternoon in the third place game of the Manchester Police Athletic League Stovepipe College Hockey Tournament. The Penmen are now 7-3-0, while the Wildcats improve to 6-3-0.
Josh Obregon scored the lone goal of the game, and the eventual game-winner in the second period to give the visitors a 1-0 lead and secure third place in the tournament.
After a scoreless first period, Obregon got the Wildcats on the board with an early goal just 3:38 into the second frame. Despite outshooting Johnson and Wales 13-7, the Penmen were unable to capitalize on any of the looks, and took a one-goal deficit into the final period.
SNHU had three power play opportunities in the third period to get an equalizer, but Johnson and Wales was able to kill all three man-up chances for the Penmen to get the win.
Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) saved 24 shots in net for the Penmen, while Joey Ballmer recorded 30 saves for Johnson and Wales. Southern New Hampshire outshot the Wildcats 30-25, and neither team was able to score on a power play opportunity.
The Penmen return to action Wednesday, December 4 when they travel to Nichols College for a 8:10 non-conference game.
