MANCHESTER, N.H. – Brittany Martelle tallied 20 points off the bench as Franklin Pierce University registered a 73-62 Northeast-10 women's basketball victory at Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday night.  The Ravens upped their record to 15-7 and 12-6 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 11-11 and 8-10 in the league.

Martelle finished 7-11 from the floor, including a 3-5 effort from three-point land, to lead all scorers.  Tiffany Johnson knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with 12 points, while Kara Charette and Brooke Long each netted eight points.

Senior Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine) led Southern New Hampshire with 19 points on 8-10 shooting while also recording nine rebounds and six steals.  In the process Sorrell moved into second place on the SNHU career scoring list and now has 1,404 career points.  Michelle DeRoma (West Roxbury, Mass.) notched 16 points and now sits just nine shy of the 1,000 mark for her career, while Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) added eight points off the bench.

SNHU trailed by 13 points early in the second half and 45-34 with 17:04 remaining when it ran off 11 unanswered points to tie the game with 13:18 to go on a DeRoma layup.  The Penmen  took their only lead of the second half at the 11:52 mark when a layup by Chelsea Dunham (Johnson, Vt.) gave the hosts a 47-46 lead, but the lead was short-lived, as Martelle knocked down a three on the next Raven possession.

Martelle's trifecta kicked off a 12-0 run capped by a Johnson layup with 8:45 left that made it 58-47.  Franklin Pierce extended the lead and built its largest advantage, 68-52, with 4:09 left on a Martelle layup.

Franklin Pierce built an early 17-7 lead and took its largest lead of the first frame, 25-11, with 9:14 left on a Brooke Coderre three.  The Penmen held the Ravens without a field goal for the final 4:57 of the period and closed the stanza on a 7-1 run to pull within seven, 34-27, at intermission.

FPU knocked down 10 of its 21 three-point attempts on the evening and took 12 more trips to the free throw line, going 17-26 while the Penmen were 9-14 at the charity stripe.  The Penmen shot 46.3% for the game and outrebounded the Ravens 37-35, but 22 SNHU turnovers led to a 25-12 advantage for Franklin Pierce in points off turnovers.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday afternoon when it travels to second-ranked Bentley University for a 1:30 Northeast-10 contest.  The next home game is slated for Saturday, February 23 when the Penmen entertain Merrimack College in a 1:30 game at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  That game is the annual "Penmen Pink Day" for breast cancer awareness.
