Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team was defeated 3-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference game against Franklin Pierce University Thursday evening. The Penmen are now 7-13-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the league, while the Ravens improve to 8-10-3 and 6-4-0 in conference play.
After a scoreless first period, the Penmen would take the lead late in the second period when Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) recorded his fourth goal of the season from Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) and John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.) with 12.5 seconds left to play in the period. The Penmen would go into the locker room with a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.
Senior Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.) would build on the lead when he scored an early third period goal to put SNHU up 2-0 on the Ravens. However, the Ravens would answer when Sean Dunn notched a goal halfway through the period, and Andrew Dadds scored the equalizer at the 16:31 mark to tie the game at 2-2. Franklin Pierce would score once more in the period to take its first lead of the game on a Dino Federico goal. The Penmen could not find an answer, and Federico's goal would prove to be the game winner.
Penmen goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) saved 25 shots on the night, while Dave O'Brien stopped 28 in net for the Ravens. SNHU would outshoot the Ravens 30-28 on the night.
Southern New Hampshire remains idle until the Northeast-10 Conference tournament begins. The date and location of the game will be determined at a later date.
