THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire will travel to Franklin Pierce University Saturday evening for a Northeast-10 semi-final game at 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES: Ken Hutchins is in his sixth season as head coach at SNHU...a 1987 graduate of SNHU, Hutchins previously served as an assistant for ten years before assuming the role as Head Coach..Hutchins has also led the Penmen to an appearance in the championship game of the ECAC Division II/Northeast-10 Conference Tournament in 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2006... Jaymie Harrington enters his fifth season as head coach of the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey program in 2012-13...it is also his sixth year with the team, as he served as an Assistant Coach in 2007-08...through four seasons as the bench boss in Rindge, Harrington is the program's all-time winningest coach in terms of both wins and winning percentage, at 25-64-7 (.297).
THE SERIES: The Penmen will face the Ravens for the fourth time this year, while posting a 1-2 record against Franklin Pierce this season. SNHU split with the Ravens on its home ice with a 2-0 win early in the season, and a 3-2 loss in the last regular season home game for SNHU, the Penmen also fell to the Ravens 2-3 on the road. The Penmen are 17-6-3 overall against Pierce.
IN THE TOURNAMENT: Southern New Hampshire is making its 12th appearance in 13 years, and 13th overall appearance in the Northeast-10 Ice Hockey Championship, while posting a 10-13 record in the tourney all-time …the Penmen have reached the NE-10 title game four times while falling to Saint Anselm each time…SNHU is 3-0 against Franklin Pierce all-time in the NE-10 tournament.
THE PENMEN: SNHU is coming off back-to-back 3-2 losses against Franklin Pierce...freshman Jim Gabrione leads the Penmen offense with 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points, while classmate Joe Collins has contributed seven goals and 13 assists on the season for a team second-best 20 points…Steven Berry has added 17 points on the season, and Dane Caracino adds 11 assists and five goals for 15 points…in net for the Penmen, Tyler Holske has notched 532 saves on the season while posting a .896 save percentage.
THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce suffered two losses to close out regular season play against Brockport and Westfield State...Roscoe Sweeney is the leading scorer for the Ravens with seven goals and 14 assists to total 21 points...Brendan McCarron and Michael Carr have each contributed 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Carr leads Franklin Pierce in goals scored with 10… in goal for the Ravens, Dave O' Brien leads the team in saves with 395 and a save percentage of .923.
WHAT'S NEXT: Saturday's winner will take on the winner of the semi-final game between first-seeded Saint Anselm and No.4 seed Stonehill College on Saturday for the Northeast-10 championship game which is slated for March 2nd.
