SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team by the league's head coaches, it was announced Thursday morning.
Sanders, a 6-3 swingman who played at Linden HS then spent a year at St. Thomas More (Conn.) Prep, ranks second in a balanced Penmen offense with his 11.6 ppg average while also recording 4.3 rebounds per game and leading the squad with 41 steals. He has connected on 35 three-pointers on the season and ranks ninth in the NE-10 in three-point percentage at 42.2% behind the arc. Sanders has started all but one game and has reached double figures in scoring 17 times in 26 games, including a career-best 20 points at Merrimack in December.
After being picked 12th in the Northeast-10 preseason coaches' poll, Southern New Hampshire finished sixth in the final NE-10 regular season standings, coming in at 16-10 and 12-10 in league play. The No. 6 seed in the NE-10 Tournament, the Penmen travel to third-seeded University of New Haven for a 3:00 quarterfinal round game on Sunday afternoon.
