THE PENMEN: SNHU is coming off a 3-1 loss to Stonehill last Tuesday...prior to the loss, the Penmen were able to string together a six game winning streak...freshman Kathleen Shurman and Emma Houlihan lead the Penmen with 109 kills each thus far...sophomore Meg Salamun and freshman Marisa Coronis have each passed the century mark in kills as well, hitting 107 and 102 respectively. Salamun leads the team with a .338 hitting percentage, ranking second in the NE-10... junior Maeghan Higgins has tallied 269 digs on the season... junior Catherine Cotton is the team's primary setter and has racked up 576 assists...she ranks third in the conference in assists per set (9.44) and has helped the Penmen hit at a .171 clip, sixth in the league.
HEAD COACH PETER VITERITTI: Peter Viteritti is in his fourth season as head coach at Southern New Hampshire and 15th as a collegiate head coach...prior to SNHU he coached at Holy Cross, East Stroudsburg and Eastern Connecticut...he guided the Penmen to a 12-12 mark in 2013, their most victories since 2006.
THE RAVENS: After a slow start, Franklin Pierce has won six straight, including a 3-0 win over LIU Post on Saturday...Catie Swiderski leads the Ravens with 179 kills on the season, while Aiden Garcia is hitting at a .325 clip and has 143 kills...Sarah Machugh has racked up 266 digs thus far, while Hannah Runge is the team's primary setter and has handed out 375 assists.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen play their next two games at home, first with Merrimack Saturday at 1:00, then Bentley next Tuesday night at 7:00.
NEWS AND NOTES: With the early success in the 2014 season, players including Maeghan Higgins, Catherine Cotton, and Meg Salamun have found their way near the top in the Northeast-10 Conference leaders... Higgins currently leads the conference in digs with 269, Cotton is currently third in assists per set with 9.44, while Salamun is second in hitting percentage coming in at .338.
