MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team posted an 81-67 victory in a Saturday afternoon matchup against Wilmington (Del.) University. The Penmen improve to 2-0, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2.

Junior Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Penmen in scoring as she finished the contest with 17 points while shooting 75% (6-8 from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds. Loretta Rocha (Espargos, Cape Verde) and Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) both finished the afternoon in double digits, registering 14 and 13 points respectively. Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) led SNHU is both assists with five, and rebounds, with 11, while adding eight points. 

SNHU came out strong on both sides of the ball, opening up a 31-6 lead 11:27 into the game and headed into the halftime break up 45-21.  The Wildcats pulled as close as 13 in the game's waning moments, but the Penmen maintained a comfortable margin throughout the second half.

Wilmington was led by Tenicia Spence, who led all scorers with 24 points, while Carin Essex-Arline added 14 points. 

Southern New Hampshire recorded a 48.3% field goal percentage in the contest, while knocking down five of their 13 three-point attempts. The Penmen also topped the Wildcats on the glass, outrebounding Wilmington 58-32.   Defensively, SNHU limited Wilmington to just 32.8% shooting on the afternoon.

The Penmen women's basketball team opens Northeast-10 play at rival Saint Anselm for their first road game of the season on Wednesday for a tilt that begins at 5:30 pm.
