NASHUA, N.H. — The Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team concluded its most successful season in program history with a 10th-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country East Regional Championship at Mine Falls Park on Saturday. The 10-kilometer event consisted of 28 teams and 191 student-athletes.
After finishing No. 26 in 2013, Southern New Hampshire climbed 16 places in 2014. The 10th-place showing is the highest finish at an NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country championship in school history and gives the Penmen a top-10 result in each of their seven races this season, also a program first.
Graduate student Devin Bennett (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) led Southern New Hampshire on Saturday with an official time of 33:07, which was good enough for No. 48 overall. Junior Michael Bisbee (Ashburnham, Mass.) was next across the finish line for the Penmen, posting a time of 33:18 to finish at No. 51.
Freshman Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) navigated the course in 33:35, while sophomore Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) traversed the terrain in 34:17. Freshman Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.) rounded out the Southern New Hampshire top-five with a time of 34:30. Senior Chris Low (Hudson, N.H.) checked in next in 34:51 before sophomore Justin Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) closed out the contingent of Penmen with a 36:45 performance.
