Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team fell on the road to Merrimack College, 6-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Friday. The Penmen move to 1-15 and 0-8 in conference play, while the Warriors improve to 9-7 and 5-5 in the league.
Junior Sarah Gluck (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the lone Southern New Hampshire goal in the setback and classmate Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.) recorded 15 saves in the Penmen cage.
Merrimack opened up a 4-0 lead during the game's first 25 minutes, as junior Christine Zubkus (Dover, N.H.) and sophomore Hannah Magerman (Franklin, Mass.) each scored single goals, while freshman Taylor Simpson (York, Maine) tallied a pair. With just under eight minutes left in the first half, Gluck trimmed the deficit to three goals when she beat junior Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.) for her second of the season off an assist from freshman Mikeala Gauvain (Salem, N.H.).
Simpson added two more goals in the second half to finish the contest with four goals and an assist. Davis turned aside two shots in 57:30 of action to earn the win for the Warriors.
The Penmen return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Southern Connecticut State University to Larkin Field for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at 6 p.m. Merrimack also resumes its schedule on Wednesday when it plays host to Stonehill College for a 4:30 p.m. face-off.
