RINDGE, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team earned a ninth-place finish at the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Cross Country Championship at Franklin Pierce University on Sunday. The eight-kilometer race consisted of 163 student-athletes from 15 institutions.
The Penmen posted their highest finish in program history and generated a top-10 performance in the conference championship for the first time since the 2007 season.
Southern New Hampshire was led by freshman Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.), who finished No. 22 overall with a time of 29:02. Junior Michael Bisbee (Ashburnham, Mass.) checked in right behind McLaren after completing the course in 29:08, which was good enough for No. 25.
Freshman Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) was the next Penmen finisher on Sunday, as he navigated the terrain in 29:26. Sophomore Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) crossed the finish line in 30:36, while graduate student Devin Bennett (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) completed the Southern New Hampshire top-five with a time of 31:24.
Senior Chris Low (Hudson, N.H.) recorded a time of 31:29, which was followed by sophomore Justin Barcomb's (Burlington, Vt.) 32:14 performance. Freshman Bryan Spooner (Pepperell, Mass.) and senior Tom Phillips (Madison, Conn.) rounded out the group of Southern New Hampshire competitors in 32:54 and 34:12, respectively.
The Penmen will remain idle until Saturday, Nov. 22 when they travel to the NCAA East Regional at 2:30 p.m.
