MANCHESTER, N.H. – Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) led four Southern New Hampshire University players in double figures with 14 points as the Penmen upset No. 13/22 Assumption College 69-54 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Wednesday night at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  The Penmen upped their record to 4-6 and 1-5 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds move to 7-2 (4-2 NE-10).

The win over Assumption was the first for SNHU against a ranked opponent since January 7, 2012, when the Penmen toppled the then-No. 15 Greyhounds 77-54 in Worcester.  Southern New Hampshire had dropped its last 10 contests against ranked foes.  Assumption entered the game ranked No. 13 in the D2SIDA media poll and No. 22 in the USA Today/WBCA poll.

Wiseman was 5-9 from the floor and narrowly missed a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.  She also added four assists.  Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) was 3-6 behind the arc and finished with 12 points, while Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) also totaled 12 points.  Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) registered 10 points and five assists, while Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) added nine points.

Caitlin Ackerman led Assumption with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Kelly Conley added 12 points.

Southern New Hampshire never trailed, opening up a 14-3 lead just over five minutes into the game.  The Penmen took their largest lead, 27-10, with 5:17 to go on a Wiseman basket, before the Greyhounds closed the half on an 11-2 run to pull within eight, 29-21, at the break.

The Penmen lead fluctuated between six and 11 for most of the second half until a 9-2 run by the hosts capped by a pair of Wiseman free throws with 3:44 left made it a 56-41 game.  Assumption cut the lead to 10 twice, but would get no closer.

SNHU shot 48% in the second half and knocked down five of its eight three-point attempts over the final 20 minutes while shooting 43.3% for the game.  The Penmen limited the Greyhounds to 35% shooting for the game, including just 2-15 behind the arc.  Assumption boasted a 44-38 rebounding advantage, but Southern New Hampshire committed a season-low 11 turnovers en route to the victory.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a 3:00 game at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  That game can be seen live on NESNplus.
