Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – LIU Post placed four players in double figures as it outscored Southern New Hampshire University 41-32 in the second half en route to a 71-65 non-conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  The Pioneers upped their record to 4-6, while the Penmen saw a four-game win streak snapped and are now 7-3 overall.

Charles McCann led the Pioneers with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyuan Williams totaled 13 points.  Chris Orozco narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Dillon Burns added 10 points.

Southern New Hampshire was led by Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.), who tallied 19 points and seven rebounds.  BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.) scored all 14 of his points in the first half, while Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) recorded 12 points and now sits just 13 away from 1,000 for his career.

The Penmen led 33-30 at halftime and 39-32 early in the second half, but LIU Post used a 10-4 run to pull within one, 43-42, with a pair of Greg Dotson free throws with 14:40 to go.  The Pioneers used a 13-4 run capped by a McCann layup at the 5:46 mark to take their first lead of the second half and go up 57-53.

Southern New Hampshire cut the lead to two, 62-60, with 2:41 left on a pair of Aleksandar Dobrovic (Podgorica, Montenegro) free throws, but back-to-back baskets by the guests made it 66-60 with 1:36 left.

The first half saw nine lead changes before a 14-6 Penmen string late in the first half capped by a Bonsignore triple put SNHU on top 29-22 with 2:40 to go.  The Pioneers outscored Southern New Hampshire 8-4 over the rest of the frame to pull within three, 33-30, at the break.

LIU Post, which held a 47-27 rebounding advantage, shot 54.2% over the final 20 minutes and 46.2% for the game while limiting SNHU to 33.3% shooting, including a 9-35 effort behind the arc.  The Penmen stayed in the game by going 18-22 at the free throw line, while the Pioneers went 18-29.

Men's basketball is idle until Saturday, January 3, when it travels to Merrimack College for a 3:00 Northeast-10 contest.  The next Penmen home game is Wednesday, January 7 when SNHU hosts nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University in a 7:30 tilt that can be seen live on NESNplus.  LIU Post went just 5-10 at the free throw line over the final minute, but that was good enough to seal the win.
