MANCHESTER, N.H. – Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.) totaled 12 of his game-high 20 points in the second half as Southern New Hampshire University topped Stonehill College 73-58 in Northeast-10 men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse. The Penmen, who have won two straight and three of four, now stand 5-2 and 4-1 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks are now 5-3 and 3-2 in league play.

Southern New Hampshire never trailed and the game was tied just once, at 12-12 eight minutes in. Clinging to a 17-16 lead, the Penmen used a 7-0 spurt capped by a Bonsignore basket to go up 24-16 with 8:50 left in the first half. SNHU took its largest lead of the frame, 31-20, with 1:50 left on a Gilligan basket, but five straight by Stonehill to end the half made it a 31-25 game at intermission.
The hosts opened the second half on a 15-7 run and three free throws by Sanders at the 15:33 mark gave the Penmen a 14-point cushion, 46-32. The Skyhawks got within nine, 46-37, on a pair of Walsh free throws with 14:27 on the clock, but an 11-2 run capped by a Sanders three with 8:43 to go made it a 60-42 ballgame. Southern New Hampshire maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
SNHU shot 57.1% over the final 20 minutes and 46.2% for the game while the Skyhawks shot 41.8%. The Penmen took 13 more trips to the free throw line, going 17-23, while Stonehill was 6-10. The guests held a 41-38 rebounding advantage, but 14 turnovers, compared to a season-low eight for Southern New Hampshire, led to an 18-5 edge in points off turnovers for the victors.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts Assumption College in a 7:30 Northeast-10 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse. That game can be heard in the Manchester area on WGIR 610 AM.
