Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Mary Louise Dixon led four Stonehill College players in double figures with 18 points as the Skyhawks downed Southern New Hampshire University 79-58 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse. Stonehill upped its record to 16-6 and 13-5 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 7-16 and 5-13 in the league.
Dixon also dished out 10 assists and grabbed five rebounds. Asia Ewing tallied 15 points off the bench, while Amy Pelletier knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Shannon Brown added 10 points on 5-10 shooting.
Lorreta Rocha (Espargos, Cape Verde) led Southern New Hampshire with 13 points on 5-8 shooting while also tallying eight rebounds and four assists. Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Kaylea Griffin (Green Springs, Ohio) went 5-6 from the floor and added 10 points.
SNHU held an early 9-6 lead following a steal and layup by Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.), but a 14-2 Stonehill run capped by a Tori Faieta three with 9:53 to go in the first half gave the guests a 20-11 lead. The Skyhawks opened up a 42-23 lead 47 seconds before halftime on a Dixon three, but SNHU's Emily O'Callaghan (Cork, Ireland) banked home a three as time wound down in the first half to make it a 42-26 game at the break.
The Penmen outscored Stonehill 17-11 over the first nine minutes of the second half, with a steal and layup by Rocha at the 11:17 mark making it a 53-43 game. The Skyhawks used a 7-0 spurt to open up a 60-43 lead with 8:40 left, and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Stonehill shot 60% (18-30) in the first half and 51.6% for the game while knocking down 11 of its 20 three-point attempts. SNHU shot 41.9% for the game, but was just 2-11 behind the arc. The Penmen held a 36-30 rebounding advantage on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts top-ranked and unbeaten Bentley University for a 5:30 Northeast-10 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
