Field Hockey Suffers Setback Against No. 3 LIU Post

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team started off Division II play Saturday with a 7-0 setback against No. 3 LIU Post. The Penmen fall to 1-1 on the season while the Pioneers remain unbeaten at 2-0. 

Junior Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) was the leader, tallying four goals and assisting on two other. Sophomore midfielder Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.) added a goal and an assist, while classmates Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y) and Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.) each registered a goal each.

LIU Post controlled the tempo throughout much of the game, outshooting SNHU 39-0. Junior Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.) played the first 35 minutes in the Penmen cage, stopping eight of the 11 shots that came her way. Freshman Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) made her college debut in the second half and managed to record five saves.

SNHU returns to action on Friday, kicking off Northeast-10 conference play against Saint Michael's College. LIU Post return to Manchester next Friday as they take on Saint Anslem College.
