No. 1 Men's Soccer Opens NE-10 Play With Clean Sheet

Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – No. 1 Southern New Hampshire University got goals from three different players as it opened Northeast-10 men's soccer play with a 3-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University Wednesday night at Sodexo Field.  The Penmen remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0 (1-0 NE-10), while the Ravens drop to 2-2 (0-1 NE-10).

The win was the first for Southern New Hampshire in Rindge since 2002, a 10-game winless streak (0-8-2).  The win also extended SNHU's school-record unbeaten streak to 27 games, the ninth-longest unbeaten streak in NCAA Division II annals.  The Penmen have also won 22 consecutive Northeast-10 games dating back to 2012 including the conference tournament.

SNHU opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a corner kick.  Jonathan Lupinelli (Mont de Marsan, France) sent a left-to-right corner kick into the box that Dominic Samuel (Toronto, Ontario) headed home for his second goal of the season.  The Penmen carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The guests added two goals in the game's final 10:27.  In the 80th minute, Sofiane Tergou's (Bitche, France) shot from the top of the 18 hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced home for his second goal of the season.  At 82:34, Jose Seoane (A Coruna, Spain) registered his fifth goal of the season on an assist by Kenny Doublette (Port-au-Prince, Haiti).

Franklin Pierce's best chance to tie the game  came just shy of the 60-minute mark, when Dallas Donovan fired a shot from 20 yards out to the right of the Penmen goal, however, SNHU keeper Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) made a diving stop to keep the hosts off the board.

DiMaggio made a pair of saves for his second shutout of the season and 21st of his career, tying him with Erik Fernstrom and Dan Pelc for second place in program history in career shutouts.  Raven counterpart Jordan LeGuyader made three saves as the Penmen outshot Franklin Pierce 23-5.  SNHU also had seven of the game's 10 corner kicks.

Southern New Hampshire returns home on Saturday night when it hosts the University of New Haven in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
