DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University freshman Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.) shattered a school-record en route to helping the Penmen finish No. 10 at the 2014 UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. A total of 34 teams and 255 student-athletes competed in the event.
McLaren, who finished No. 34 in 26:07, eclipsed Alex Brown's 2008 UMass-Dartmouth Invitational time of 26:41 to take ownership of the top eight-kilometer time in program history. Classmate Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) also bested Brown's benchmark and moved into second-place all-time in Penmen history with a time of 26:20, good enough for No. 46 in Saturday's race.
Graduate student Devin Bennett (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) also left his mark in the SNHU record books on Saturday, navigating the course in 26:53, placing him fourth all-time and No. 68 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Junior Michael Bisbee (Ashburnham, Mass.) posted the fifth-best 8K time in school history with his 27:00 performance, which also made him the fourth Penmen to cross the line on Saturday. Sophomore Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) rounded out the top-five SNHU student-athletes to compete on Saturday, finishing in a time of 27:34 and earning the ninth-best mark in program history.
The Penmen return to action on Oct. 4 when they travel to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. for the 2014 Paul Short Invitational.
