MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team opened its 2014 campaign at the Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College on Saturday. The Penmen finished seventh in a field that consisted of nine teams and 99 runners.
Senior newcomer Devin Bennett (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) crossed the finish line first for SNHU and 27th overall, completing the course in 29:00. Junior Michael Bisbee (Ashburnham, Mass.) was right behind Bennett in 28th after posting a final time of 29:02.
Sophomore Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) finished in 31:07, which was good enough for 58th, while senior Chris Low (Hudson, N.H.) was just 25 seconds behind him in 62nd at 31:32. Freshman Bryan Spooner made his collegiate debut in a time of 31:56, and rounding out the group of Penmen runners was sophomore Justin Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.), who checked in at 34:22.
SNHU returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 at the Bruce Kirsh Cup on the campus of Franklin Pierce University.
