PREVIEW: Volleyball Hosts Hawks in Home Opener

THE PENMEN: After rallying from a 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 win in the season opener at Merrimack, Southern New Hampshire went 2-2 at the Georgian Court Tournament this past weekend...freshman Carolyn Scacchi leads the Penmen with 48 kills thus far...junior Emma Houlihan and sophomore Megan Salamun each have 36 kills, with Salamun hitting at a team-best .439 clip...Houlihan is hitting .386 and has a team-high 15 blocks (five solo, 10 assists)...freshman Marisa Coronis has 26 kills, while junior Nina McGouldrick has 40 digs and 25 kills...junior Catherine Cotton is the team's primary setter and has racked up 179 assists, while classmate Maeghan Higgins leads the team with 66 digs...Kendra Mikuta ranks third with 34 digs thus far.

HEAD COACH PETER VITERITTI: Peter Viteritti is in his fourth season as head coach at Southern New Hampshire and 15th as a collegiate head coach...prior to SNHU he coached at Holy Cross, East Stroudsburg and Eastern Connecticut...he guided the Penmen to a 12-12 mark in 2013, their most victories since 2006.

THE HAWKS: Saint Anselm opened the season with wins over Assumption and Post in a tri-match on Saturday, both by 3-0 scores...Brennah Gladwill leads the Hawks with 21 kills thus far, while Kathryn Teets has totaled 20...Melissa Jewett has a team-best 28 digs, while Natalie Steinwart has handed out 58 assists over two contests.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen are away for their next eight matches, starting this Friday and Saturday at the East Stroudsburg Tournament...the Penmen return home October 7 for a Northeast-10 match against Franklin Pierce.

NEWS AND NOTES: SNHU has won 12 of the last 14 matches against Saint Anselm dating back to the 2007 season...the two teams have met twice annually, with one being a non-conference contest...junior Catherine Cotton is already the program's all-time leader in assists with 1,766...classmate Emma Houlihan sits just six blocks shy of entering the program career top 10 in that category...she has 117 career blocks...Cotton and senior Kendra Mikuta are serving as team captains this season.
