Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. - No. 25 University of New Haven gradually pulled away in the second half en route to a 79-60 Northeast-10 women's basketball win over Southern New Hampshire University Thursday night at Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers upped their record to 16-3 overall and 10-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen now stand 10-11 and 4-10 in the league.
Briana Bradford paced New Haven with 19 points on 6-9 shooting, while Ashley LeBlanc finished with 15 points. Bria Moore recorded 13 points and nine rebounds, while Aquillin Hayes added 12 points for the Chargers. Lauren Hebert contributed 10 points for the Chargers.
Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with 11 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Freshman Jennifer Shelp (Apalachin, N.Y.) finished with a season-high 11 points, while Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) added 10 points.
Southern New Hampshire found itself down 56-50 with just under nine minutes left following a three-pointer by Caitlin Dell'Orfano (North Andover, Mass.), but a 9-0 New Haven run capped by a Moore basket with 5:11 left made it a 65-50 game. The Chargers maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way.
The Penmen scored the game's first six points and after four lead changes, used a 7-0 run to take a 21-14 lead with eight minutes to go in the first half. The Chargers tied the game with seven straight points, and took a 31-28 lead into the locker room.
New Haven shot 48.4% for the contest while limiting the Penmen to 37.9% shooting. Southern New Hampshire took six more trips to the free throw line, but went just 13-23 at the stripe, while New Haven was 11-17. The guests held a 39-36 rebounding advantage.
SNHU is idle until Wednesday, February 4 when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 5:30 Northeast-10 contest.
