Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to The College at Brockport at Tuttle North Ice Arena on Monday night. The Penmen move to 5-6 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 7-5-1 with their fifth consecutive win.
After Brockport took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, Southern New Hampshire battled back to tie the score at a goal apiece with just over five minutes left in the second period. After the Penmen picked up a penalty late in the middle stanza, senior TJ Bond (Nashua, N.H.) sprung freshman Timothy Baylis (West Haven, Conn.) behind the Golden Eagle defense. Baylis converted the shorthanded opportunity for his fourth goal of the season and third man-down strike in 10 games.
In the third, Brockport tallied what would prove to be the game-winner 7:08 into the final frame. Troy Polino potted his third goal of the season from Jake Taylor and Aidan Verbeke, before Jeremy DeFazio pushed an empty net goal across with 26 seconds remaining to provide the final margin of victory.
Freshman Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) registered 38 saves in goal for the Penmen, including 15 in the third period, but suffered his first collegiate defeat. DeFazio led the Golden Eagle offense with two goals, while Bobby Chayka handed out a pair of assists. Aaron Green picked up the victory for Brockport after turning aside 24 shots.
Southern New Hampshire returns to the ice on Tuesday when it travels to Fredonia State for a 7 p.m. face-off with Blue Devils. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to Elmira College for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
