Box Score

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Freshman Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) registered a career high 45 saves, but the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team could not overcome a three-goal first period by Fredonia, falling 7-1 at Steele Hall Ice Arena on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils upped their record to 3-5-3 on the season, while the Penmen now stand at 5-7.

Blake Forslund scored a pair of goals to lead the Fredonia offense. Damien Kulynych and Marcus Ortiz added a goal and an assist in the victory, while Mitch Kaufman and Hunter Long tallied two assists for the Blue Devils.

Slatky eclipsed his previous career best of 38 saves, which was set Monday against the College at Brockport. The freshman netminder turned aside 13 shots in the first period before stopping 17 in the second and 15 more in the final 20 minutes of play. Slatky's 45 saves are the most by a Southern New Hampshire goaltender this season, and the highest total since Tyler Holske stopped 54 shots in the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament semifinal.

Fredonia opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Kulynych, Ortiz and Marcus Andersson. After a second period goal by Forslund extended the Blue Devils' lead to four goals, the hosts tacked on three more goals in the third period.

Junior Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) got the Penmen on the board late in the third period, as he recorded his eighth goal of the season on the powerplay off an assist from classmate Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.).

Southern New Hampshire will continue its road trip on Saturday when it faces Morrisville State College at 7 p.m. The Penmen conclude their six game road swing with a 2 p.m. face-off against Oswego State on Sunday. Fredonia is back in action on Friday when it travels to Neumann University for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
