MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jackie Beathea totaled 19 points and 14 rebounds as Southern Connecticut State University downed Southern New Hampshire University 63-52 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Wednesday night at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  The Owls upped their record to 8-7 and 5-2 in the NE-10, while the Penmen saw a five-game win streak snapped and are now 8-7 and 3-6 in the league.

Beathea was 8-15 from the floor and led three Owls in double figures.  Danielle Powell finished with 14 points on 7-14 shooting, while Mariah Hankton added 12 points and six rebounds.

Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) led Southern New Hampshire with 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) registered nine points and four assists, while Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) tallied eight points.

Southern Connecticut never trailed and the game was tied just once at 2-2.  The Owls led 14-4 5:32 into the game  before seven straight Penmen points capped by a Springfield three at the 12:15 mark made it 14-11.  Southern New Hampshire got within two twice, the last on a Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) basket with 4:56 to go, but the guests scored the last six points of the half and took a 31-23 lead into the locker room.

The Owls scored the first four points of the second half to open a 35-23 lead, and maintained a double-digit lead most of the rest of the way.  SNHU cut the lead to 10 several times, and to nine in the game's waning moments, but could get no closer.  Southern Connecticut led by as many as 17 points.

Southern Connecticut, which held a 48-36 rebounding advantage, shot 39.7% from the floor and limited the Penmen to 33.9% shooting for the contest. A 19-10 edge on the offensive glass led to a 20-9 lead in second chance points on the evening.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to American International College for a 1:30 Northeast-10 contest.  The next Penmen home game is Saturday, January 17 when they entertain Concordia (N.Y.) College in a 1:30 non-league tilt at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
