A pair of goals midway through the second half lifted LIU Post to a 2-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Larkin Field on Sunday. The Pioneers up their record to 5-4 and 2-3 in league play while the Penmen move to 2-9 and 0-6 within the confines of the NE-10.
After a scoreless first half, LIU Post was able to push across two goals within a span of 3:13 to earn the win. Grace Ilias gave the visitors a 1-0 lead 13:49 into the second when she redirected a centering feed from Melissa Quintanilla. The Pioneers capped the game's scoring with 17:58 left, as Emily Miller collected a pass behind the Southern New Hampshire defense and found a streaking Keliann Margiotta. Margiotta one-timed the pass to the back of the cage to make it 2-0.
Sophomore Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) stopped 10 shots in goal for the Penmen and classmate Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) led the offense with a pair of shots on goal.
Notes:
- LIU Post held a 13-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-0 edge in the second half.
- Southern New Hampshire trailed 11-4 in penalty corners for the game, and were at a 7-1 disadvantage in the game's final 35 minutes.
What's Next:
The Penmen continue their schedule on Wednesday when they welcome Assumption College to Larkin Field for a 7 p.m. face-off with the Greyhounds.
