Junior Nacho Hernando-Angulo (Logrono, Spain) closed out the most successful individual season in Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country history at the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship meet on Saturday. Hernando-Angulo, who also became the first Penmen men's cross country student-athlete to compete in the NCAA National Championship, finished No. 91 overall in a field of 246 runners with a time of 31:17.
Freshman Alfred Chelanga of Shorter University captured the individual National Championship after navigating the 10,000-meter course in 29:24. The Colorado School of Mines earned its first-ever NCAA National Championship with a combined score of 100 points, edging three-time defending champion Adams State University, which finished with a team total of 127.
In his first season for Southern New Hampshire, Hernando-Angulo achieved levels of success previously unseen in program history. He captured three individual titles, set a new school record in an 8,000-meter event, posted the highest finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship (No. 3) and NCAA East Regional (No. 5), and also became the first-ever United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree and Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection. Hernando-Angulo also placed in the top-five in seven of the nine events he competed in this fall.
