Result: Southern New Hampshire University — 143 (5th/28)
Junior Nacho Hernando-Angulo (Logrono, Spain) became the first student-athlete in Southern New Hampshire University history to qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championship on Sunday, as he finished fifth overall at the 2015 NCAA Division II East Regional at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. As a team the Penmen finished fifth with a combined score of 143, which is the highest finish in school history.
Two weeks after becoming the first member of the men's cross country team to earn First Team All-Northeast-10 accolades, Hernando-Angulo turned in a 10,000-meter time of 31:22 and garnered All-Region honors — another program first. Joining Hernando-Angulo on the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team was sophomore Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.), who finished No. 15 overall in 32:10.
Senior Michael Bisbee (Ashburnham, Mass.) finished third for Southern New Hampshire with a time of 32:30, which was good enough for No. 26 in the field of 189 student-athletes. Sophomore Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) was next in for the Penmen in 33:05, and junior Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) checked in at 33:36.
Freshman Chris Burrill (Exeter, N.H.) posted a finishing time of 36:06, and classmate John Sanborn (Chichester, N.H.) completed the group of Southern New Hampshire student-athletes with a time of 36:51.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire turned in its second consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Division II East Regional after placing No. 10 a year ago.
- Hernando-Angulo will head to the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 21 in Joplin, Missouri.
