Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) hit a three-pointer as time expired in the second overtime session to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 65-64 Northeast-10 women's basketball win over Franklin Pierce University Tuesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  The Penmen upped their record to 11-13 and 5-12 in the NE-10, while the Ravens are now 12-8 and 10-7 in the league.

Stinson finished with eight points, while Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) led the Penmen with 19 points and nine rebounds before fouling out in the first overtime session.  Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) tallied 14 points, while Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) registered 13 points and a career-best 11 rebounds.

Jessica Hurd led Franklin Pierce with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Kara Charette totaled 12 points and Natalie Bastian added 11.

Franklin Pierce took a 64-62 lead with 53 seconds left in the second overtime on a Charette basket.  SNHU turned it over on its next possession and was forced to foul Kate McDonald with 25 seconds to go.  McDonald missed the front end of the one-and-one, with Ryan collecting the rebound.  The Penmen crossed half court and called timeout with 17 seconds to go.

SNHU was unable to get into its offense and passed the ball around the perimeter.  Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) got the ball to Stinson, who launched a three over a Raven defender that found the bottom of the net to give the Penmen the victory.

Both teams mustered just two points in the first overtime session.  Springfield put the Penmen on top 31 seconds into the frame, while a Hurd layup with 59 seconds to go tied the game 57-57.  Both teams would get looks down the stretch but couldn't convert.

Southern New Hampshire trailed 44-37 with 10:47 left in regulation following a Bastian layup.  The Penmen scored the next seven points to tie the game with 8:43 to go on a Doherty basket.  The Penmen took a 51-50 lead on a Springfield three with 3:42 left, but the lead was short-lived, as Jemma Thacker knocked down a three on the next Raven possession to make it 53-51 with 3:20 left.

Wiseman tied the game 55-55 with her layup with 2:16 to go, before neither team scored in regulation.  The Penmen had the ball with 31.6 seconds left and a full shot clock but committed a shot clock violation with a layup attempt not hitting the rim.

The hosts led 25-18 with 6:29 to go in the first half following a basket by Charette, but the Penmen would hold the Ravens scoreless the rest of the way, scoring the final 10 points of the half.  A layup by Olivia Conrad (Hanover, Mass.) 25 seconds before halftime gave the Penmen a 28-25 lead at the break.

Southern New Hampshire knocked down six of its nine three-point attempts and shot 37.3% for the game.  Franklin Pierce shot 40.6%, but was just 6-21 from three and 2-13 from the free throw line, while the Penmen were 9-15 from the charity stripe.  The Ravens outrebounded SNHU 48-44.

SNHU returns to action Saturday afternoon when it travels to nationally-ranked Stonehill College for a 1:30 Northeast-10 contest.
