Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Caitlin Ackerman totaled 23 points as Assumption College downed Southern New Hampshire University 65-52 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Tuesday evening at Laska Gymnasium. The Greyhounds, who wrapped up the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Division in the upcoming NE-10 Championship, improve to 15-11 and 10-11 in conference play, while the Penmen see their season come to a close at 11-17 and 5-16 in NE-10 action.
Ackerman finished 8-14 from the floor and also grabbed seven rebounds to lead three Greyhounds in double figures. Allison Stoddard and Kelly Conley recorded 12 points apiece for Assumption.
Southern New Hampshire was led by freshman Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.), who registered 13 points on 6-12 shooting. Graduate student Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) and senior Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) wrapped up their careers by recording 11 and eight points, respectively, while Olivia Conrad (Hanover, Mass.) added seven points off the bench.
The two teams traded the lead five times before the Penmen took a 17-12 lead with 10:36 to go in the first half on a basket by Stinson. The lead changed hands three more times before an Ackerman basket with 7:54 left put the hosts on top 20-19. Assumption used an 8-2 run to open a 30-23 lead 1:40 before intermission, and took a 30-26 lead into the locker room.
SNHU tied the game twice in the opening moments of the second half, with an Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) basket just over a minute into the frame making it 32-32. From there, the Hounds scored 12 straight points to open up a 44-32 lead at the 15:27 mark. The Penmen countered with a 9-2 run to pull within five, 46-41, on a pair of Springfield free throws with 11:47 remaining. A pair of Wiseman free throws with 9:11 left again cut the lead to five, 50-45, but the guests could get no closer.
Assumption shot 41.4% overall and knocked down four of its 11 three-point attempts while limiting the Penmen to 30.2% shooting, including a 2-12 effort from long range. The Hounds also held a 47-39 rebounding advantage.
