Collins Named Semifinalist for Joe Concannon College Hockey Award

BOSTON – Gridiron Club of Greater Boston President Bob Norton announced on Monday that junior forward Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team is one of 18 semifinalists for the Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England competing at the Division II-III level. Collins is a semifinalist for the second consecutive season and is the only Division II student-athlete.

The Southern New Hampshire center has been one of the top scorers in the nation this season. In 21 games, Collins has generated 38 points on 11 goals and 27 assists. He ranks No. 3 in all of NCAA Division II and Division III Ice Hockey in points per game (1.81) and leads the country in both assists and assists per game (1.29). Collins tops the Northeast-10 Conference in point scoring and assists, and sits in a tie for second in goal scoring. He also leads the league in powerplay points with 21 (6G-15A)

The 2013-14 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, Collins has notched at least one point in 19 games this year and has 11 multi-point efforts. In 70 career games he has 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points.

The Gridiron Club plans to announce the finalists and winner of the 15th Joe Concannon Award in March, prior to the start of the NCAA Frozen Four. The award will be presented during the New England Hockey Writers dinner in April.

The Penmen wrap up their Northeast-10 schedule on Tuesday when they host Franklin Pierce University at the Ice Den at 7 p.m.
