Freshman Brianna Camara (Fall River, Mass.) scored a career-high 15 points and classmate Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) added 13, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team was defeated by Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening at the Moore Fieldhouse.

Camara shot 4-for-6 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-for-7 from the stripe, while pulling down six rebounds. Lorenzen, the reigning Northeast-10 Player and Rookie of the Week after a career-best 29-point performance at Adelphi University on Saturday, was 4 of 7 from the field and 5 of 6 from the line to go along with three boards and two helpers.

Danielle Powell led the Owls with 15 points, while Jackie Beathea and Taylor McLaughlin scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Penmen jumped out to a 5-2 lead before a 5-0 spurt from Southern Connecticut put it in front for the first time at 7-5 nearly four minutes in. Four lead changes and two ties later, the hosts held a 14-11 lead with 2:03 to go in the opening quarter that they would not relinquish.

The lead was still three when Paige Decker drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Southern Connecticut a 22-16 advantage at the end of one. The trey also set off a 19-6 blitz that reached deep into the second quarter and widened the Owls' lead to 38-22 with 2:53 to play before the half. Powell contributed five points during the run, while Beathea added four. Southern Connecticut would head into the locker room with a 40-24 advantage.

Southern Connecticut opened the second half with a 7-0 streak that stretched the lead to 47-24 just 1:45 in. Lorenzen used a personal 6-2 counter-run to pull the Penmen within 49-30 at the six-minute mark, but the Owls responded with eight straight to run the lead to 57-30 with 4:19 left in the third.

Doherty then scored six straight to power a 9-4 Southern New Hampshire run that ended the quarter with Southern Connecticut's lead down to 61-39.

Beathea scored the first six points of the final frame for the Owls, who used an 8-3 push to nudge their lead to 69-42 with 5:42 remaining. Southern New Hampshire answered with a 6-1 spurt before a 10-4 run from Southern Connecticut brought the score to 80-52 with 2:10 left.

Sophomore Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) netted eight points (3-7 FG, 2-2 FT), while senior Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) posted six points (2-9 FG, 2-2 FT) and six rebounds.

Notes:
-Southern Connecticut outshot Southern New Hampshire, 45.8 percent (33-72) to 32.7 percent (17-52), including 42.1 percent (8-19) to 21.4 percent (3-14) from deep.
-The Penmen were plus-11 at the line as they shot 19 of 25 (76%) at the stripe, while the Owls were 8 of 18 (44.4%).
-SNHU won the glass (43-38), but turned it over 23 times, while SCSU gave it away just nine times and owned a 16-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
