A total of 10 Penmen cracked the scoresheet against the Eagles, with four skaters logging multipoint evenings.
After a sluggish start, Southern New Hampshire jumped ahead late in the first on an outstanding individual effort from sophomore Michael Bears (Londonderry, N.H.). Bears picked up the puck along the right side of the offensive blue line and began to drive towards the backside of the net. He sent a self-pass to himself off the cage to work around a defender, before cutting through the left faceoff circle and whipping a backhand to the to top short side corner for the first goal of his career at 13:21.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the first, but the Penmen tallied a pair of markers in the first three minutes of the second to build a comfortable three-goal lead. Junior Kyle Valliere (Goffstown, N.H.) caught a pass from senior Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) in the high slot and ripped home a wrister at 1:24 to make it 2-0. Less than 90 seconds later, Collins won an offensive zone faceoff, outworked his defender for the loose puck and tucked a wraparound inside the far post with 17:50 left in the second.
After the Eagles trimmed the SNHU advantage back to a pair midway through the second, freshman Brandon Goudreau (Manchester, N.H.) potted the first of his career with 42 ticks to go in the second stanza. Goudreau started the play by gloving down a Post clearing attempt at the blue line, and after driving down the rightwing boards and cutting across the top of the faceoff circle, he rifled home a short-side wrist shot to send the Penmen to the locker room with a 4-1 lead.
Southern New Hampshire put the game well out of reach in the third, as it potted four goals in the opening nine minutes of play. Freshman Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) started the onslaught just 48 second in before Rogers scored back-to-back goals at 5:42 and 8:21.
The final goal of the contest came 19 seconds after the penultimate tally. Rogers won a battle for the puck behind the Eagles' goal, and walked out the rightwing side before finding freshman Brian O'Callaghan (Quincy, Mass.) at the left point. O'Callaghan quickly unloaded a wrist shot to the top right corner for his first career goal, and the marker that provided the final margin of scoring.
Junior Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) earned the win between the pipes for Southern New Hampshire after turning aside 15 shots in 45:42 of action. Freshman Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) closed out the final 14:18 with four saves in his collegiate debut.
