BOSTON – Graduate student Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.) of the eight-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was tabbed as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Player of the Week for the period ending April 17, it was announced Monday evening.
Mastroberti, who earned the first Northeast-10 Player of the Week award of his career earlier Monday, went 10-for-20 with four extra-base hits, seven RBI and six runs scored to go along with a slash line of .500/.600/.750/1.350. Mastroberti was also flawless on 24 attempts in the field during the 5-0 week for the Penmen. The second baseman was 6-for-10 with five RBI and three runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Assumption College on Saturday.
In 34 games this season, Mastroberti is hitting .338 (50-148) with two home runs, 40 RBI and 29 runs scored. The captain has registered 23 extra-base hits, including 11 triples, which have matched the single-season program record, to go along with a slash line of .384/595/.979. Mastroberti has also made just four errors in 163 chances for a .975 fielding percentage.
Mastroberti leads the Northeast-10 in RBI, extra-base hits and triples, while ranking second in hits, third in slugging percentage, sixth in doubles, 11th in runs and 13th in batting average.
Mastroberti and the Penmen are back in action Tuesday, April 19 (3:30 p.m.) when they take on Saint Michael's College. The next home game for the Penmen is Friday, April 22 when they play host to Southern Connecticut State University in doubleheader action that will begin at 4 p.m.
