Seven Penmen Nab Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.), seniors Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) and Alexa Allen (E. Longmeadow, Mass.), juniors Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine) and Aimee Cawlina (Peabody, Mass.), and sophomores Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) all of Southern New Hampshire University earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference accolades Friday.

Gendron, who was one of 13 baseball honorees, featured a 3.68 grade-point average while pursing his MBA. Gendron, a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East and NE-10 Second Team pick, submitted a slash line of .275/.398/.529/.872 in 57 games this season. The quad-captain cranked a program single-season record 12 home runs, knocked in 46 runs and scored 58 times, while going 32-for-36 in stolen base attempts. The right fielder also committed just one error in 86 total chances for a .988 fielding percentage this season. Gendron led the league in fielding percentage, while ranking second in home runs, fourth in steals, sixth in RBI and runs, seventh in slugging, ninth in extra-base hits and walks and 10th in total bases.

Gendron was joined on the NE-10 Baseball Academic All-Conference Team by Walkinshaw, who compiled a 3.86 GPA as a sport management major. Walkinshaw, who also received D2CCA East and NE-10 Second Team nods, was nearly lights out at the back of the bullpen this season for Southern New Hampshire. In 23 appearances, the closer went 5-0 with 11 saves and a 1.76 ERA. He allowed 30 hits, while striking out 47 and walking just 11 over 41 innings. Batters hit just .201 against the righty this season.

Hannan, an economics and finance major with a 3.82 GPA, was one of 14 softball selections. Hannan, who was tabbed First Team East All-Region by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and D2CCA, was also an NE-10 First Team pick. The center fielder continued to serve as one of the top table-setters in the region, as she is hit .377, reached base at a .418 clip and slugged .532 from the leadoff spot. Her 58 hits ranked fifth in the NE-10, as did her 12 doubles. She was also seventh in total bases (82), ninth in runs scored (31), No. 11 in batting average and checked in at No. 18 in OBP. Hannan reached base safely in 36 of the Penmen's 44 games this season, and drove in 22 runs, while connecting on four home runs. She also played flawless defense in center, recording 46 putouts and adding an assist in 47 total chances.

Allen, an elementary education major with a 3.89 GPA, is one of 18 women's lacrosse choices. Allen, who was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team selection in May, started all 18 games this season for the Penmen, racking up 48 points on 24 goals and 24 assists. She ranked second on the team in helpers and fourth in points, while placing 11th in the league in assists.

Kennedy also found a spot on the NE-10 Women's Lacrosse Academic All-Conference Team after she put together a 3.61 GPA as a psychology major. The goalkeeper garnered Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) North All-Region Second Team and NE-10 Second Team recognition following a season in which she went 12-6 with an 11.87 goals-against average and a .486 save percentage over 1056:52 in the cage. Kennedy started all 18 games and played all but 23:08 in net for the Penmen. A three-time NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, Kennedy led the conference in saves (198), while placing third in both save percentage and wins. Kennedy, who notched double-digit saves in 11 of 18 contests, twice turned away 20 shots, including a career-high 22 in a 15-10 victory against 18th-ranked Stonehill College on April 19.

Cawlina, a justice studies major with a 3.85 GPA, is one of five members of the NE-10 Women's Golf Academic All-Conference Team. Cawlina averaged 92.2 strokes per round over eight tournaments this season for the Penmen. She shot a 185 and finished 16th at the Northeast-10 Championship, while firing a season-best 173 and placing sixth at the Lady Penmen Spring Invite.

Aubron, an international business major with a 3.86 GPA, secured one of six men's tennis spots. Aubron went 15-9 in singles action this season, including 9-2 in Northeast-10 play. He was also 14-13 in doubles action, including 10-1 in NE-10 play, where he earned NE-10 All-Conference First Team laurels at the No. 2 slot. Aubron helped the Penmen capture their second NE-10 league crown as he was named the Northeast-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player. 

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 24 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
